About Milestone Leather

Thoughtfully Made
Milestone Leather is a small workshop in Sydney, Australia creating handcrafted leather keytags inspired by the traditional milestones of Narcotics Anonymous.
I make each keytag from top-grain, vegetable-tanned leather, chosen for its strength, character and ability to age beautifully through everyday use. Over time, the leather softens, darkens and develops a rich patina, making every keytag more individual with every day it is carried.
Use of the Narcotics Anonymous Logo
The use of the Narcotics Anonymous logo on these keytags has been approved by Narcotics Anonymous World Services, Inc. under Commercial Vendor Licence SP260103.
Obtaining that approval was an important part of the process for me. It reflects my commitment to respecting the Fellowship’s intellectual property and using the NA logo with the appropriate permission.
Designed with Care
These keytags have been developed slowly and deliberately.
I spent almost three years refining the design, materials, tooling and construction process before offering them for sale. The goal was to create something that felt familiar to people who know the traditional NA keytags, while giving the object the warmth, character and durability that only leather can offer.
Every detail has been considered: the shape, proportions, border pattern, stitch spacing, leather colours, foil colours, hardware and the way the finished keytag feels in the hand.
Materials
I use top-grain, vegetable-tanned leather because it develops character rather than simply wearing out. Unlike chrome tanning, vegetable tanning is a slower, more traditional process that allows the leather to age beautifully through everyday use.
Rather than choosing leather from a single range, I select each colour individually. Different leathers, including Vachetta leather and waxed cowhide, are chosen according to which best represents the traditional milestone colours while meeting the standard I want for the finished keytag.
Natural markings and variations in the leather are part of the material. They are not flaws. They are part of what makes every piece unique.
Tooling and Construction
Many of the tools used to create these keytags were designed by me using CAD, then prototyped through 3D printing before being manufactured for production.
The brass stamps, cutting dies, stitch-hole layouts and alignment tools were all developed to create consistent, repeatable results while preserving the character of a handcrafted product. Logos, lettering and borders are positioned with precision so every keytag is made to the same standard.
Depending on the product you choose, your keytag may feature a permanently debossed stamped border or hand-stitched construction. Every keytag is made and riveted by hand, and designed to be carried every day.
Made to be Carried
These are not meant to sit in a drawer.
They are made for keys, pockets, bags, meetings, daily routines and ordinary days. The leather will change with use, and that is part of the point. A keytag should carry meaning, but it should also be strong enough to be carried.
Every decision, from the leather and hardware to the tooling and construction, has been guided by a simple question: would I be proud to carry this every day?
I make every keytag in my workshop in Sydney, Australia. I hope it is something you will be proud to carry too.
